Definition: Master


The first drive in a dual drive combination. A master drive by itself (with no slave) is called a single drive.

Data block

A series of data elements handled as one unit. Typically a data block stored on disk is 512 bytes long (synonymous with sector). On tape the block size is normally greater and varies.
